Behind The Wheel (BTW) consists of on-the-road driving on public streets and highways, with an instructor in a dual-control car. Six (6) hours of behind the wheel instruction by a licensed and certified instructor is available through the Chisago Lakes Community Education Department.

To be eligible for Behind The Wheel you must have completed the 30 hour Driver's Education Classroom course and received your permit.

Call Coreen at 651-213-2603 to schedule your BTW for the current month or the next one (Schedules comes out on a monthly basis). During the first week of each month, the next month's schedule comes out (i.e. January's schedule comes out on the first week in December ). Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Schedule BTW hours throughout a 6-month period. The last hour is to be scheduled 1-2 weeks prior to the road test. Please schedule your road test prior to scheduling your 6th hour of BTW. Click here to schedule your road test online. 

At your BTW appointment:

• Bring your permit
• Meet at the PAC entrance (look for Driver's Education vehicle)

Drivers are strongly encouraged to drive several hours with a licensed adult, 21 years or older.
